APRIL 2001 NEWSLETTER

April 2001 Governor Chernogorov of Stavropol Krai, and a delegation from  Russia will visit Iowa April 24-27th. The delegation will spend time in Osage on April 26th. Arriving  for a 12:15 lunch at the Maple Inn, the group will participate in a presentation by Paula Cunningham, Manager of the Osage Wastewater Treatment Plant, followed by a tour of the new Osage Waste Water Facility. Fox River Mills will host the group for a tour followed by an afternoon dessert at Debbie's from 3:30-4:30 pm. Invitation .     
The Iowa Sister State IA-Stavropol Committee is coordinating Governor Chernogorov trip.  It is partially funded by Iowa and by private gifts. It exists under the aegis of the Iowa Economic Development Organization. Stavropol Region of Russia is one of the sister states of Iowa. Iowa has carried on a continuing program in various areas, many through the Iowa Economic Development Department.
     This will be the third visit of an official state delegation from the Stavropol Krai to Osage.

March 2001 
Elena Danishevskaya continues with graduate work at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. During Christmas vacation she had the opportunity to tour California and Arizona, visiting San Francisco, Seal Beach, Los Angeles, and San Diego.

January 2001 Welcome to Nadezhda F. Astakhova who will serve as Chairperson of the Lermontov Sister City. Nadezhda is an experienced teacher and a very active person. The club has increased it's activity under her leadership. Four schools, two youth organizations, a college and the club "Fenix" are involved in the activity of the "Bridges of Friendship" Club. Members study the English language, history and culture of the USA, and current affairs. Other teachers are Yelizaveta Sergienki, Olga Prokopenko, Helen Semikoz, and Alla Vershinina. Nadezhda is also in charge of the club "Young Architects". Drawings from this club were received in Osage last year and were featured in the Mitchell County Press News, are displayed in a folder in the Osage Public Library and on this web site.
