Anti-Spam for OMU Internet Users
OMU has implemented an Anti-Spam service for both
dial-up and high speed Internet customers. Here are some general questions and answers about this service.



Question: What is Spam?
Answer: E-mail that is not requested. Also known as "unsolicited commercial e-mail", “unsolicited bulk e-mail", and just plain "junk mail". Spam slows down your email, wastes your time, and may contain offensive advertising.

Question: What is Anti-Spam?
Answer: The different methods used to fight spam. OMU is partnering with a commercial e-mail filtering service to address your spam problems.

Question: Who controls the spam I receive?
Answer: The Anti-Spam service allows OMU customers to control the degree of spam filtering they prefer.

Question: Do I still need to have an Anti-Virus program on my computer?
Answer: Yes, to protect you from local osage.net accounts that could have viruses and other sources of data you introduce onto your computer, i.e. floppy disk, CDs, online chat, downloads…

Question: Is there a charge for this Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus service?
Answer: Yes. OMU Internet customers may sign up for Anti-Spam service for a monthly charge of $1.00 per account. The Anti- Virus protection is at no charge. OMU Internet customers with multiple email addresses have 2 choices:

Option 1.
Manage each email address individually for a monthly charge of $0.50 per additional email address. This provides you with:
  • Independent Message Centers* assigned to each email address
  • Individual Anti-Spam filter settings for each email address
Option 2.
Manage all email addresses together for no additional charge and you receive:
  • A single Message Center* assigned to all email addresses
  • The same Anti-Spam filter settings for all email addresses

* Message Center – A Customers’ secure Internet interface for managing Anti-Spam filter settings and quarantined emails.

Question: How do I sign up for OMU’s Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus service?
Answer: Choose 1 of these 3 options to enroll:

1. Click Here to sign up for Anti-Spam. Once your online request has been processed, you will receive a confirmation email.
2. Call OMU with your request at 832-3731. Have your email account name(s) handy.
3. Come by the OMU office and we will be happy to help you fill out a request form.

Note: Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus requests may take up to 2 business days to complete.
